Earthquakes and Tsunamis…Oh My!!!

There was an 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan today (yesterday if you’re living in Hawaii).  The earthquake then triggered a tsunami that hit northeastern Japan.  The force and power of Mother Nature was destructive today.  I don’t know if it’s over yet.  As I write this blog post, there is currently a tsunami warning for the entire state of Hawaii.  It officially became a tsunami warning at 9:31 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2011.  If the tsunami hits, the earliest wave is predicted to be around 2:59 a.m.  The warning sirens have sounded three times so far.  I’m sure they will continue throughout the night.  The sirens are warning people to evacuate coastal areas in the islands.  There was also a 4.5-magnitude earthquake on the Big Island at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2011.

My heart and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

To my family and friends here in Hawaii and in the Pacific Basin…stay safe.  I hope that the destruction is over for now…we shall see as the day continues.  I am constantly watching the television, on the Internet or on my phone looking for updates.  I’m tired and I want to sleep, but I need to stay abreast of the situation in case I need to evacuate as well.  Praying for Mother Nature to be gentle to our islands and the rest of the Pacific.
